TL;DR: We provide the laptop, run a tailored mini-lesson to gauge skills and interests, check in throughout, then debrief with parents afterward. Simple, calm, no pressure.
Before You Come
- No laptop needed: We supply the computer and have everything set up.
- Arrival time: Just arrive for the scheduled start—no need to be early.
- Want a quick chat first? Your coach will be on site 30 minutes prior if you’d like to discuss goals, concerns, or learning history.
What Happens in the Trial
Welcome & quick orientation (2–3 mins)
A friendly hello and a brief check that your child is comfortable with the device, keyboard, and mouse.
Coach-led lesson (hands-on, usually Scratch for first-timers)
We run a short activity designed to be engaging and revealing. The coach circulates and checks in constantly—offering gentle nudges, asking “why?” questions, and noting strengths and next steps.
Light wrap-up (2–3 mins)
A quick “well done” and saving or handing off any project work. There’s no formal show-and-tell during the trial; the focus is on observation and coaching.
How We Assess
During the activity, the coach observes your child’s:
- Problem-solving approach: plan → test → fix
- Core concepts: sequence/logic, loops, events, variables (where appropriate)
- Readiness: Scratch versus Python / web programming next
- Interests: animation, art, games, or building apps
After-Class Parent Chat
Right after the lesson, we’ll share:
- What your child did well and where we’ll grow next
- The recommended starting point (Scratch / Python / etc.)
- Suggested class level and schedule options
There’s zero pressure—you decide whether to sign up.
