Student Spotlight: William - Lane Cove’s Young Tech Creator

Name: William
Age: 10 years old
School: Lane Cove Public School
Current Focus: Scratch Game Creator & Aspiring 3D Game Designer
Learning Path: Creative Samurai

When 10-year-old William joined Skill Samurai Lane Cove about six months ago, he was a quiet, thoughtful student who already showed a deep curiosity for how things work. It didn’t take long for that curiosity to turn into something remarkable.

William quickly became one of our most capable young coders. He has an incredible understanding of how individual Scratch blocks work — and more importantly, how they fit together to bring an idea to life. His logical thinking and creativity allow him to build multi-level games that would challenge even experienced programmers.

Coach Justin shares,

“William has a full understanding of how Scratch works, and there’s barely anything new we can teach him at this point. The problems he brings to us are never simple — they’re the kind that need careful thought and real analysis. Lately, he’s been exploring other creators’ games on Scratch, studying their code, and then modifying it to make it his own. In one project, he even automated the player’s actions to ‘shoot’ different sprites with code, instead of using the mouse like the original game. It’s very impressive for his age.”

That mix of curiosity and problem-solving is what makes William’s learning journey so special. He doesn’t just follow instructions — he experiments, observes, and figures out why something works.

Coach Yang says,

“William is one of those students who learns by doing. He’s independent, thoughtful, and always tries to solve things on his own first. You can see that he really enjoys the process of creating and refining.”

William’s parents first enrolled him to help him explore technology in a positive and meaningful way, turning his screen time into skill time. Since then, he’s developed the kind of persistence and creative confidence that will serve him well beyond coding.

Coach Danu adds,

“He’s incredibly focused. There’s a quiet determination about him — he’s not loud or showy, but he knows exactly what he wants to achieve, and he works steadily toward it.”

Next, William is eager to dive into 3D game development, where he’ll get to bring his ideas into fully interactive worlds. Given how far he’s come already, we can’t wait to see what he creates next.

You can explore William’s Scratch projects through his online portfolio (links below) — they’re a brilliant example of what happens when curiosity, creativity, and coding come together.
